Arugam Bay is a small east-coast surf town built almost entirely around one thing: a long, reliable right-hand point break considered among the best in Asia. Outside the surf, it keeps a relaxed, low-key beach-town character.

HISTORY

Arugam Bay's surf reputation grew steadily from the 1970s onward, though the area's tourism development slowed for years due to the region's remoteness and the civil war; it's grown significantly as a surf destination since.
